The National Association of Chain Drug Stores has teamed up with the National Forum for Heart Disease & Stroke Prevention to launch a series of public service announcements featuring six mayors urging Americans to get the COVID shots. At the same time, the National Association of Manufacturers is working with the University of Florida Center for Public Interest Communications to publish guidelines for manufacturers on how to encourage their employees to get vaccinated.
The PSAs produced by NACDS and the Forum feature featuring Mayor Acquanetta Warren (Fontana, CA); Mayor Christina Muryn (Findlay, OH); Mayor Dan Pope (Lubbock, TX); Mayor Brad Hart (Cedar Rapids, IA); Mayor Mike Coffman (Aurora, CO); and Mayor Billy Hewes (Gulfport, MS). In a series of short videos, the mayors urge people to get vaccinated "to help return to the activities they know and love," according to a statement.
"Pharmacists and mayors are among some of the most trustworthy community messengers and have a critical role to play when it comes to encouraging vaccinations," NACDS CEO Steve Anderson said.
NAM's guidelines, titled "Protecting the People Who Make America," are a step-by-step approach to help the nation's manufacturing employers implement research-backed strategies to encourage vaccination among their employees and communities, according to a statement. The document draws on in-depth research, including polling and focus groups, specific to manufacturing communities and is part of the association's "This Is Our Shot" project.
"We know that while we've made great progress as a country in getting armed against COVID-19, many communities with a large manufacturing presence are lagging behind," said Carolyn Lee, executive director of The Manufacturing Institute, which is part of NAM.
"Manufacturing leaders and the business community are among the most trusted voices in the country," she added "So, we take seriously our opportunity to use that platform to reduce vaccine hesitancy."
